History of GTA Civils
2008/9
gta make progress in developing the flood risk assessment side of the business by branching into complex stream modelling. gta’s ISO 9001 certification is renewed once again.
2007
gta make a successful move to 66a Church Walk, Burgess Hill. The office is in the town centre and provides an excellent central location close to the train station. The staff are looking forward to many years at the bright and airy new offices!
2006
Neil Stevenson joined the company as a technical director; Gerald Tobias took early retirement and continues as a consultant to the company; Emma Horsby handed over the managing director reins to Martin Roberts and was retained by the board as a management consultant.
2005
gta achieved investors in people recognition at the first attempt!
2004
Emma Hornsby became sole managing director and Martin Roberts was appointed a director; gta celebrated 30 years in business.
2003
gta decided to withdraw from mechanical and electrical engineering services in order to concentrate on the core business of civils–highways–drainage–infrastructure services.
2002
The directors implemented a 5 year programme of succession planning; Gerald Tobias and Emma Horsby became joint managing directors.
2000
gta established an association with Highway Associates, a small but very professional group of engineers, dealing with all aspects of traffic, road design and maintenance. As a result our range of services was extended to include highway engineering.
1996
Saw the incorporation of Peter Lines & Partners by gta which broadened the scope of services offered by the consultancy to encompass a wider building services capability.
1992
gta facilities management was launched by Emma Hornsby to provide survey and project management services for the implementation of minor to medium building services contracts.
1974
Gerald Tobias established the private practice of Gerald Tobias Associates (now trading as gta civils ltd). It offered a consultancy specialising in those services associated with public health and infrastructure engineering — drainage, sewage disposal, road and hard standing design, plumbing, water and fire engineering. Until the mid 90s a large portion of its workload was provided by retailers Safeway and Sainsbury.

Managing Director
Martin is a director who enjoys giving personal attention to his clients by successfully managing their projects and through good communication. He has a reputation for producing high quality, innovative and cost effective design solutions.
Neil Stevenson
Director
Neil takes the lead at gta in developing new business and extending existing relationships. He is a very experienced engineer, particularly in the residential sector, and has a hands–on approach to his projects.

Consultant
Gerald is the company founder and, although now semi–retired, still takes a close interest in the business. He plays an active role in marketing, quality control and business planning. he sits on the board as a non–executive.

Highways Consultant
Allen is a very experienced chartered highways engineer with a wealth of experience in the public and private sectors. He and his team have a first rate record of overcoming planning problems associated with highways and civil engineering.

Highways Consultant
Roger worked for East Sussex County Council for 27 years and in that time developed a wealth of experience in the transport sector. His experience included the following:
- developing the transport aspects of the East Sussex County Structure Plan;
- liaison with District Councils on transport aspects of Local Plans;
- liaison with Government Office for the South East and SERPLAN on regional transport strategies and plans;
- transport data collection and analysis;
- highways aspects of Development Control throughout East Sussex.
He was also the leading figure in the formation and development of the TRICS trip generation database and its marketing and adoption as the foremost national database of its type. Roger has worked with gta since leaving East Sussex County Council in 2002.
